Day 3 - Wentworth to Broken Hill

Today we left Wentworth for Broken Hill, an approximate 3 hour drive. As nothing was open, except a bakery we missed, we soldiered on to the next town before we got a coffee and breakfast. This town would be Coombah which consisted of a roadhouse (Petrol & food) and this was where we were able to get a coffee and a ham, cheese & tomato toastie each. The lady here, who I assume was the owner, was lovely. She was an older lady who was happy to tell me all about the surroundings. A lake showed up on both our GPS' which we were apparently driving over, she told me that this lake was cut off around 70 years prior so that the highway could be put in. She advised us where to go in Broken Hill and Silverton and also reccomended we visit Mundi Mundi which was already suggested to us by Nel & Pete. After this little break, we were back on the road again.

We arrived in Broken Hill and set up in the Broken Hill Tourist Park on Rakow Road, our first night in the camper. Unfortunately, it rained..... AGAIN...... all night long. The pack up tomorrow was not going to be fun.

Upon arrival we decided to go and visit one of my customers at a Furniture One store. He was very helpful in assisting us with getting a new jockey wheel, so much so that he told the guy to look after us which he did by giving us a discount. Woohoo. After our purchase we went back to the campsite to make the repairs. As the campsite was high than where the car was when backing it in, we had to let the air down in the tyre to be able to unhitch and what do you know, we pierced the tyre and are now with a flat jockey wheel, but we'll make do.

After our repairs we decided to visit Mundi Mundi, where there are supposed to be amazing sunsets. Unfortunately because it is once again raining so we were unable to see a sunset if we were to return. Here is what Mundi Mundi looks like in 8 degrees of drizzle :).

Off to Silverton to have a look at the pub and the Mad Max museum. First stop was the pub, I was driving home so Phil was getting his drinks in as a priority. This pub was awesome, it had lots of quotes hanging from the roof, a fire and lots of photos of Mad Max and the town. Even Mr Ed (not really, just a town horse) visits this pub. There were donkeys out the front but they werent too keen on making friends with us, we didnt have any carrots. I did however befriend a dog who was able to help herself to the front (swinging) doors of the pub. She roamed the pub herself and let herself in and out, she was super cool.

This was one of my favourite quotes.

After the pub we headed to the Mad Max museum which unfortunately was closed for the day :(. So instead, we grabbed a few snaps of Phil out the front and he was very excited as you will see.

After Silverton we made our way back to Broken Hill for a tourist site of my choice, Marios Palace Hotel. This hotel appeared in the Prascilla Queen of the Desert movie and was a lot smaller than expected. I had a photo next to what MIGHT have been the actual silver stilletto used on the bus. This hotel had a nice little bar and great artworks on the roof and walls. There is a show which is Prascilla themed shown here however, we missed that due to a private event.

After a drink or two here we moved back to our very wet, very cold campsite. A quick steak and 'Kokoda' pasta and we were off to bed.

Wildlife spotted today included plenty of goat, sheep, emu's, cows, a fox, bulls, camel, donkeys, horses and of course the dogs.
