Day 15 – Kings Canyon to Uluru
Phil woke this morning with a very sore back and we had
another giggle. We packed up, showered and made our way to Uluru which was only
about a 3-3.5 hour trip. About 150kms out Phil pointed and said look at that,
it was Uluru! We could see it already and my response was “that’s a big
f*&king rock”! We stopped at Curtin Springs Roadhouse so Phil could have a
beer and I ordered a snickers…woohoo! And then we were back on the road.
Uluru from 150kms out.
We made camp, the Ayres Rock Campground and went into
reception to check in. There was a huge line, three people working two of which
were not really interested in being there! We were served by a man who I called
the Sloth as he reminded me of the sloth out of Zootopia, that’s how slow he
was doing EVERYTHING! We finally got directions and went to set up. We had a
quick bite to eat and made our way to the Olgas.
There wasn’t much information about the Olgas, what they
were or how they were formed which was pretty disappointing. I actually still
don’t know much about them except what is in our tourist information booklet
which states that Kata Tjuta (the aboriginal name for the Olgas) consists of 36
domes, the highest of the rises 546m above the plain, 198m higher than Uluru.
When we arrived at the Olgas we did a very short walk in between two of the
domes and had some photos. The rock was actually incredibly. It’s quite smooth
and unusual, quite hard to describe.
We went back to camp after gathering some more fire wood,
had dinner and sat around the fire for a little while. On the menu tonight was
marinated chicken wings and potatoes that we cooked in the fire and added sour
cream! YUM!
A few more shots of Uluru as we left the Olgas.
