Day 12 - Alice Springs to Glen Helen Gorge
Today the adventure with the Briscoes and Spooners begins!
With Kings Canyon and Uluru our next destinations, we have
decided to stop for the night at Glen Helen Gorge and visit some sights on the
way through! First stop was Ellery Creek, a beautiful little spot which, if
only it was a little warmer, would be awesome for a swim.
After taking in the views and a toilet stop, we moved on to
Glen Helen Gorge where we would stay for the night. After booking in and
getting our passes for the Mereenie Loop, a dirt road which will take us to
Uluru, we set up camp. Unpowered sites were all that was available and they
were a tight squeeze, there was a fair bit of skill used in parking the vans at
this place. Good work boys! After set up we went for a quick 10 minute walk to
the Glen Helen Gorge which again, would have been even more lovely should we
had been able to swim!
Miss Amelia at the campground with the Gorge in the background.
Phil and I at the Gorge.
Ella being a water fountain at the Gorge. No, that's not water from the Gorge in her mouth!
Pete & Nel at the Gorge.
Back to camp for some nibbles by our first fire, well, first
for Phil and I on this trip. Left over pasta for dinner for us and we all sat
down to a game of Scattagories with the kids. All in our group played along
which made for some very funny, totally unacceptable and questionable answers
which points were held until we could google the answers. We never did google
the answers though however I am sure this will be bought up next game.
That’s it for Day ?, we will be on the road again tomorrow
with our destination Kings Canyon.
